Welcome to Not Less.
For the Not Less project, our goal is to raise awareness about the negative or incorrect stereotypes regarding homelessness, and give people a look at the real faces of the homeless community. Being able to hear the stories of others is a wonderful first step to positive change in how we view those experiencing homelessness. The essence of our website revolves around the name "Not Less." We really want to show that though someone may be experiencing homelessness, they are still a human being and their value is not less than anyone else's.
Perceived Problem & Solution
Our group is addressing the issue that there are many stereotypes and misconceptions about those experiencing homelessness that are not always necessarily true. These misconceptions are ideas like those that are experiencing homelessness are all dangerous, lazy, or drug addicts. These labels are more often than not untrue, and can often cause the people that hold them to be less sympathetic to those experiencing homelessness and thus prevent these victims of the system from receiving the proper care they need at a sufficient level.
Our solution to this problem was to spread awareness on the reality of those experiencing homelessness through the power of video interviews. We were able to interview one formerly homeless man named Ignacio who shared his personal story with us which we shared online. We hope that members of our community who may hold these misconceptions will see the video of Ignacio and through hearing his story, realize that many of the common misconceptions of those experiencing homelessness are not always true.
